In order to attain good overall health, experts in the field recommend consuming foods of many different colours. According to Harvard Health, adding colour to your meals will help you live a longer, healthier life.

An article by Katherine McManus states that colourful fruits and vegetables can paint a beautiful picture of health because they contain phytonutrients. These give plants their distinctive tastes and aromas and strengthen a plant’s immune system, hence, when consumed by humans, is said to protect us from chronic diseases.

McManus also recommends a diet that contains a good proportion of plant-based foods which include fruit and vegetables, nuts, seeds, oils, wholegrain, legumes, and beans. However, she adds: “It doesn’t mean that you are vegetarian or vegan and never eat meat or dairy.”

With that in mind and as I work on a farm growing vegetables and fruit, and have become acquainted with many farmers and others in related fields, a friend and I put our heads together and came up with vegetable box sets and fruit and veggie combo deals.

We rolled out our first offers on June 28. After some feedback and learning of customers’ preferences, we tweaked our box choices in the second week. Now into our third week and following weeks to come, and after collating more customer comments and suggestions, we are glad to say we are a “work in progress” and will accommodate our customers’ wants and needs as best as we can.
